Different Mattress Styles

I love my relationship with my bed, no commitment needed. We just sleep together every night. Yes, mattresses play a very important role in our daily life. You can’t even think of a day without your mattress and its hard to miss your mattress. Whether you are depressed/ stressed out or tired and needed to relax, your mattress provides the support and comfort you need to relax and rest. Studies show that people sleep better and suffer less back pain and experience fewer symptoms of stress when sleeping on newer beds. In general, you can get improved sleep if your sleep surface relieves pressure on joints and other areas of the body. Matching your specific needs with the right product is a very subjective process. Mattresses are made with a variety of materials and technologies to deliver support and comfort and to meet the wide array of consumer’s needs and tastes.

Following are mattress types that are available in the mattress industry.

Innerspring mattress

An innerspring mattress is a mattress type that uses a steel coil support system. Manufacturers offer several different types of spring systems, including units with springs connected into a single unit and individually wrapped pocketed coils. Spring shapes, coil gauge, designs and number of coils in a mattress can vary.

Hybrid mattress

A hybrid mattress combines a steel coil support system with one or more types of foam, such as polyurethane foam, memory foam, or latex foam as well as foams that contain gel or other materials.

Waterbed

Unlike other mattresses, waterbeds use water chamber as the support system. Manufacturers offer two types of waterbeds- soft sided and hard sided beds. A soft-sided waterbed consists of a water chamber inside a rectangular frame or rigid foam, zippered inside a fabric casing. The water chamber is covered by padding or upholstery materials, which can include with various foams and fiber.

Foam mattresses

These include memory foam mattresses, latex and can contain gel or other materials. The foam used in such mattresses can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and densities to offer consumers a mattress to offer different comfort levels, feel and heat dissipation features.

Pillow top mattress

Pillow top mattresses come with an additional upholstery layer sewn into the top of the mattress. This layer can be made from a variety of fiber and foam materials.

Firm mattress

Manufacturers use specific design techniques to create mattresses that have a firm surface. The use of carefully selected foams, in conjunction with tighter sewing patterns in the quilt, both help to create this firm feel. Firm mattresses offer optimal support but are designed to offer limited contour ability. Firm mattresses can also be classified into luxury mattresses and cushion firm or can be paired with a euro-top style for a unique feel.

Air bed

Air beds use an adjustable air chamber as the support system. Unlike the type of air mattresses used for camping, the air chamber of a residential air bed is covered by padding or upholstery materials, which can include various foams and fiber. Air beds are designed to look like a conventional bed and come with different firmness levels to meet the individual and changing needs of couples.

Latex mattress

They use the latex foam as the support system, in the upholstery layers or both.
